When I was a boy and teenager, I had a knack for building relationships and was good at talking with others, connecting people, and creating a sense of ease in conversations. The same was true in my early career days. But the first time I had to present to a group of executives, I was suddenly very nervous. My voice was trembling, palms sweaty, and my thoughts raced faster than my words could follow. Despite having the knowledge, I felt that the message I wanted to convey got lost.

What I realised that day is this: Presentation is not about impressing, it’s about connecting. In reality, all I had to do to make this a successful presentation, was to go back to the basics of connecting with those in the room.

Over time, I learnt that powerful presenters aren’t born – they’re built. They build themselves through practice, self-belief, clarity of thought, and – most importantly – the desire to serve their audience. And this applies not just on stage, but in everyday conversations, meetings, and moments of influence.
