Sometimes, clarity comes from gaining a little distance.As I look out of the plane window on my way to Sydney, the view above the clouds feels particularly fitting.I’m heading back to work with an organisation for the third year, this time facilitating a leadership session on crucial conversations as part of their in-house leadership development program.And the view reminded me of something important.When conversations become challenging, our natural tendency is often to dive straight into the detail:Who said what?Who did what?Who was right?Who was wrong?Before we know it, we are deep in the clouds. Perspective narrows, emotions rise and resistance builds.Sometimes, the most productive thing we can do is gain some altitude.Step away from the detail.See the bigger picture.Get curious about different perspectives.Reconnect with what we are collectively trying to achieve.A shared goal gives us something to move towards together, rather than something to fight against each other.And from there, the details often become much easier to navigate.Perhaps the key to a crucial conversation is not always diving deeper.Sometimes, it is rising above it first.#leadership #CrucialConversations ##DareToMakeADifference
